NEW YORK—British artist Shauna Richardson‘s intriguing soft sculpture animals were recently featured at the Rockefeller Center Anthropologie store. She crochets the works using locally sourced mohair and has trademarked the craft as Crochetdermy.
The exhibition wall copy explained her technique and approach:
“Forgoing patterns for an impressive freestyle technique that highlights each species’ unique visage and musculature, Richardson—who has been crocheting since she was nine years old—employs the ancient craft as a conduit for conceptual art.”
“Crochetdermy” was on view from May 8 to June 18, 2014.
