I just saw this wonderfully haunting painting a few days ago in the Phillips Gallery, Washington, DC USA – it was included in a special exhibit of selected artworks from the Anita Reiner estate collection. Anita Reiner purchased it a couple of years ago.
I just simply could not take my eyes off of this painting. Ms. Yaidom-Boakye is a marvelous and sensitive painter. I see a great deal of her likeness in this painting. Despite the sad implication of the title, this is an artwork that I could look at and enjoy time and time again.
