NEW YORK—The debut of New York Fashion Week featured “African Icons,” the fifth runway show produced by Arise, a London-based magazine that focuses on African fashion and style. Yesterday, was Fashion’s Night Out and the first day of Fashion Week which is showcasing Spring 2013 collections from Sept. 6 to 13. At Lincoln Center, five designers of African origin participated in the Arise show—Tiffany Amber, Tsemaye Binitie, Maki Oh, Gavin Rajah, and bespoke tailor Ozwald Boateng.
Meanwhile, the scene out front during the 3 pm presentation was the usual fashion week swirl of street style photographers, fabulous shoes and dapper dandies donning colorful separates.
