NEW YORK—Across the street from the Soho Grand, Albert Einstein is keeping an eye on matters from a relatively high perch. Expressing himself via his signature coiffe, along with wide eyes and extended tongue, Einstein appears to be declaring the scene in front of the boutique hotel an amusing “blah.”
The street art appropriates an iconic 1951 image taken of Einstein on his birthday by UPI photographer Arthur Sasse. Instead of smiling for the camera as requested, Einstein stuck his tongue out, creating what would become one of the most popular images of the scientific genius.
