NEW YORK—Keith Johnson has an enviable job. For the past 19 years he has been shopping the globe scouting for antiques and artisans and scouring the world’s markets for the unique finds sold in Anthropologie stores. His adventures were chronicled on the Sundance Channel show Man Shops Globe and are captured in “Past Ports,” an exhibit at the gallery in the retailer’s Rockefeller Center store. Over the years Johnson documented his travels to Africa, Asia and beyond on his camera phone and “Past Ports” presents the photographs in four inventive installations: The images are produced in light boxes and displayed in drawers contained in vintage chests and shipping containers. The exhibit is transporting.
“Past Ports” is on view at the Anthropologie Store in Rockefeller Center through July 31, 2012.
